Positive ovulation test, what does it mean and when should I get in touch to maximize my chances of pregnancy?
A positive ovulation test means that ovulation is expected within the next 36 hours, as LH hormone levels have risen. This is very important to know because our fertile window includes the days before ovulation as well as the day of ovulation itself. Once ovulation is complete, fertilization of the egg cannot occur, and pregnancy cannot be achieved.
Considering the additional ~12 hours during which fertilization can occur while the egg is still in the fallopian tube, we have a total of 48 hours from the moment of a positive ovulation test to make the most of.
Specifically, it is recommended to have one intercourse on the same day as the positive result and one intercourse on each of the following 2 days, totaling 3 times, to maximize the chances of pregnancy.
If this is not possible, even a single intercourse after the positive test result still means utilization of the test, thus increasing the chances of conception.
Since it is preferable for sperm to already be in the fallopian tube waiting for the egg, do not leave a long gap before the first intercourse within your fertile window.
These guidelines apply regardless of the ovulation test you use (One Step strips, midstream, or cassette and Clearblue digital).
